USS Boston Shipmates Reunion 2013 - Day 3 |
|
On Saturday morning after Breakfast the buses left the hotel for 2 tours. Half of the buses went to the Tram at Sandia Peak and the other half went to the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History, where we saw Terrier Missile Launchers, like the ones that were aboard the CAG-1 and also the USS BOSTON Paver that we have placed there as well as other historic items. The views from the top of Sandia Peak were awesome. The Tram transported about 50 Shipmates at a time to the top and they were arranged in “Flights”. I took a photo of a group of Shipmates at the top. There are some Breath Taking Photos, I didn’t include all. | More Photos |
The Nuclear History and Science Museum was also excellent and very interesting. The Missile Launcher in the front of the Museum is identical to the one aboard the CAG-1. The Paver in the Picture is part of a future walkway to a Nuclear Sub Display. The tours were great and the Shipmates enjoyed the lunch at Sandiago’s. The buses departed both the Museum and Sandia Peak for the hotel at 1500. | |
We started the evening with a Reception in Atrium of the Hotel which included a Mariachi Band. At 1745 we had the Mariachi Band parade our Shipmates and Guests to the Ballroom where the Banquet and Program was to be held. We started our evening program promptly at 1800 by Piping all 5 of the Senior officers aboard. We had the Chaplain (from Kirtland AFB) do the invocation and then the Honor Guard (also from Kirtland AFB) Paraded, Presented and Posted the Colors under the direction of FTGC Gary Leyda, 1958 – 1961. Our Master of Ceremonies this year was Dan Schiebel, 1965 – 1969, he led us in the Pledge of Allegiance before the colors were posted. We also had Jim Gustafson, 1966 – 1969, do a Patriotic Salute to the flag. Our Keynote Guest Speaker this year was RADM. Jon Barr, the first Commanding Office of the SSN-703 in 1982. We also had a representative of the Albuquerque Mayor’s Office. His name was Roger Newall, he is the Veteran’s Agent/ Liaison for the City of Albuquerque. We had a great Program and meal and we all danced the night away to the tunes of the HIT SQUAD. Was a great evening but we had to get to bed early as reveille was early for a 0600 breakfast. | More Photos |
